Making a loop around West Lake is something I thought of for a long time before coming to Hanoi. It seemed remote and unlikely. West Lake loop is 13km long but the main challenge it the distance required to get here. For me it makes a good 30km to run around and come back home. It’s not an everyday run but definitely a highlight of the week. The first thing you notice is how big the lake is: a bay would be more accurate name. Next you realize how lively the place is even in the early hours of the day: people exercising, dancing, running, cycling, walking. You would think that everyone who could come, came to West Lake. It’s a beautiful place and appreciate it with time as you discover more of Hanoi. Remember to come early to avoid the traffic. Running clockwise seems to be more popular and pleasant.
