I’ve started a new habit of washing my running shoes. It sounds very simple. Why would it matter if you ever wash your running shoes? Yet something important started to happen. I started running better and with more confidence. My posture has improved. I feel lighter. Sounds hard to believe, right? I think the real change began when I started thinking of myself as the person who washes his shoes. I’ve learned to pay more attention to how my body feels when I run and how I run. This is a gradual process. The improvement does not happen overnight. Yet it is unmistakable. I run better, and I feel closer to the person I know I ought to be.
