Last weekend I navigated trails without GPS assistance thanks to a well-marked course. It was delightful to be fully present in the race without checking my position every few minutes. Of course, I studied the course beforehand and recalled what I remembered happily. It was relieving to focus on running alone. Not using the phone camera for pictures allowed me to enjoy the moment more, which also helped me remember better since I had no phone memory to rely on. Do we place too much value on technology and not enough on our own senses? The time and distance don’t matter when climbing a steep mountain or finding a way down a trail path. Distances feel longer, and time seems to stop whenever I’m aware of it.
