Running Relaxed

Completing marathon race on my own terms

October 27, 2025

As I was running my second marathon distance in two days, I learned the importance of being relaxed and running your own race. I was not competing on my second day. I had the confidence of knowing that I can cover the distance. I adopted a conservative pace from the start. I was able to notice getting tense and relax my shoulders or make sure that I do not lean too much forward when my knees start to hurt. When my foot felt like developing tension, I slowed down the pace and it stopped feeling hurt. It is amazing how much your body can tell you if you pay attention. I did not over-hydrate like last time. I learned that watermelons are easier on the stomach compared to sports drinks. Bananas are now my favorite fruit on long runs as well. How good does a watermelon at 36km taste! Having run 39km the day before, marathon felt relaxed and at ease. No more tension and worry inside me ahead of the start. I simply let go and saw what happened. I felt very calm and in control. I can describe this as running with intent.
