I recently had an experience of running 14km along the same 1km loop. It made me get to know the place I am running at fairly well. I do my run at an easy pace: knowing that I will have a good workout because of a longer than average distance. The first few rounds are easy. It sounds like a fun idea to run the same route. Then comes the realization that it is quite boring to do so. Then my mind drifts to other things than running. Important in this process is being able to overcome myself and to start running in the first place. Then there is the idea of stopping to run – what good can come from doing more of the same? Once that is resolved something interesting happens – I start to run faster. I also start to pay more attention to my surroundings like people on the street, the moon in the sky and wind direction. Before I know it, my run is over, and I head back home. I try to think as I run and make notes of the things I thought about when I come back. And the best part? Tomorrow, I get to repeat a very similar looking route. This is how I grow.
