Last year, I did most of my runs in a small area in Hanoi. I would not have thought it was possible to run long distances in such a tight spot. Running this way made me stronger and more creative. The ideas for projects that I had not considered before came to mind: figuring out reasons behind GPS inaccuracies, using OSM maps to identify good running places, wondering if I could make running safer on busy Hanoi streets. I would not have worked on any of these had it not been for my experience living here. Moreover, I completed two ultra stage races that made me realize how little it matters where you go running. Running in tight loops is a challenge for maintaining a fresh perspective. I tried recording my thoughts while running, collecting location data, and even earning crypto by sharing noise pollution levels in my area. My next project would be writing an algorithm to explore OSM maps as if exploring them myself: creating a model that generates new and original routes. Exploring with data: isn’t it the most exciting thing you can do?
