I could not fall asleep, so I headed for a run just before 1am. My idea was to run until sunrise, but I felt I need prepare better for such run. I want to get ready for the ultras I am planning to run by doing night runs and see how my body and mind respond. I could not have picked up a colder time of the year. December nights are dark and windy – the kind of weather which makes you ignore the alarm clock in the morning. I was running in my neighborhood, and I knew the place well. Yet it felt strangely unfamiliar. I wanted to spend time with myself, and it was really interesting to run slow and think about what matters to me in silence. The thought that came to my mind is how many opportunities I pass by and leave unexplored – like running at night. I do not have any other time I can do long runs. This is the life of parent with two kids – you use whatever time you have. No complaints.
