Looking Through Different Lens

Experience of running by looking at data

December 11, 2024

I’ve spent a lot of time analyzing location data generated while running with watches and phones. It’s fair to say that the data is quite uneventful compared to the scenery outside. Things that humans take for granted (like choosing the best route) are challenging to explain to machines. Designing an algorithm to navigate streets like a human or rendering what we see in 3D are both significant challenges. Looking at the data, one realizes there are more dimensions to our experiences than can be understood intuitively, much like the real world. Appreciating these complexities adds depth to how we perceive the world around us, but it’s empowering yet discrete - we only get answers to the questions we ask. The data is specific while our experience integrates everything we see and how we think.
