Inner Silence

Experience of calm on the long run

October 28, 2025

As I was running my marathon, I experienced a kind of quiet that I rarely get to experience in my life. Very relaxed and calm. No tension. Just the feeling of running and being present. It is like the stillness of a lake surface on a windless day. No wind, no fish. Nothing disturbs the surface. This stillness is always there within me; it’s a familiar place I have been to many times before. I experience it around 26km when the initial surge in pace is long gone and there is still a long way to go to the finish line. I wish I could stay, but it comes only for a brief time, then I am running again like I always had. This moment of clarity, of knowing that what I do is part of a greater whole, is what I treasure so much from my running experience. It’s like drinking from a well on a hot day in a desert.
